Jonah and the Whale - Revisited - The OverComer

The OverComer: Never Argue With A Kid Who Went To Sunday School!

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.

The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it is a very large mammal its throat is very small.

The little girl stated that “Jonah was swallowed by a whale!”

Discipline Your Children Correctly - The OverComer

If parents refuse to teach and discipline their children
in the ways of the Lord as found in the Bible,

Then the world will teach their children
in the ways of the devil ~ the ways of sin and death!

A Brother’s Love - The OverComer

I was walking around in a big bazaar when I heard the cashier talking to a boy who could not have been more than 5 or 6 years old. The cashier said, “I am sorry, but you do not have enough money to buy this doll.” The little boy turned to me with his money cupped in his hands and asked, “Mister, do I have enough money?”

I asked him who he wanted to give the doll to. “It is for my sister. I want to give it to her for her birthday. I have to give the doll to my Mom so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.” His eyes were so sad while saying this. “My sister has gone to be with God. Dad says that Mom is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take this doll with her for my sister.”

My heart nearly stopped! The little boy looked up to me and said, “I told Dad to tell Mom not to leave yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall!” He then showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing. He said, “I want Mom to take my picture with her so my sister will not forget me. I love my Mom and I wish she does not have to leave me, but Dad says that she has to go to be with my little sister.” He looked again at the doll with sad eyes and asked me, “Mister, please help me check if I have enough money for this doll.”

I secretly reached into my pocket and said to the boy, “Suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll?” “OK,” he said, “I hope I have enough!” I added some of my money to his without his seeing and together we started to count. There was a little more than enough for the doll and even some spare money!

The little boy was ecstatic, “Thank you God for giving me enough money!” Then he looked at me and added, “I asked God last night before I went to sleep to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, and He heard me! I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my Mom, but I did not dare to ask God for too much. But, He did gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose. My Mom really loves white roses.”

I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started. I could not get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local newspaper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk driver in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young mother and her little girl. The little girl died right away, and the mother was in critical coma. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug off the life-sustaining machines, because the young mother was already brain dead. Was this the family of the little boy?

Two days after this encounter, I saw on TV that the young woman had passed away. I bought a dozen white roses and I went to the funeral home where the wake was held. In her casket, holding a single beautiful white rose was the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest. I left the place teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed forever . . .

The love that the little boy had for his Mom and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him.

Our real value is in what we are willing to give, not in what we are capable of receiving.

Do not drink and drive!

A Statesman vs A Dirty Politician - The OverComer

A Statesman

A Statesman thinks of the next generation – a statesman goes into elective public service because he has an idea/project that is good for the general welfare; after his project has been passed or implemented – he goes home to his vocation/profession and private life.

A Dirty Politician

A Dirty Politician only thinks of what he can personally get for himself and for his “extended family” from the government and for the next election! He runs for government office and stays there “till death do us part because public service is addictive!”
